A patent is not ownership of every similar idea. In the United States, it is a limited right to exclude others from making, using, selling, offering for sale, or importing what the issued claims cover.

Invention

The useful thing or process a person created. An invention can exist before any patent application does.

Provisional application

A U.S. filing that can establish an earlier filing date. It is not examined and normally expires after 12 months.

Nonprovisional application

The application examined by the USPTO. It generally includes a description, drawings when needed, claims, an oath or declaration, and fees.

Patent prosecution

The back-and-forth with the patent office after filing—not a criminal case.

Patentability, inventorship, deadlines, claim scope, foreign rights, and filing strategy can require a registered patent professional.

Why this exists

An inventor family wanted a clearer path.

Founder Frederick John Gansz watched his uncle pursue inventions from age 12 until his death. He remembers the uncle being devastated by inconsistencies, stopgaps, legal costs, and a system that felt built for institutions rather than ordinary citizens.

During Frederick’s own first filing journey in Florida, that family history came back into focus. He built EZ Invent from the belief that human creativity deserves a clear path, inventors should remain in control, and institutional power should never make a citizen feel too small to participate.

This is the founder’s personal experience and point of view—not a finding that any person, agency, lawyer, or corporation took a particular invention or violated the law.
